OUR TOP 5 EASTERN SIERRA CAMPGROUNDS
With the vast beauty the Eastern Sierra offers by way of Highway 395, it has a significant number of campsites. Many sites offer beautiful views and solitude, while others withhold comfortabilities to those not completely immersed in “roughing it.” These campgrounds mentioned are all accessible by car, depending on the season. Though many people enjoy the thrills of backcountry backpacking trips, these campgrounds are for car camping enthusiasts. We will honorably mention those we wish to visit but have not yet had the chance to. The commute takes a toll from Southern California, so all campgrounds are exclusive to the Central and Southern Sierra. In the future we will make sure to give the West and Northern Regions some love too. There are also many spots to explore on BLM land, but these campgrounds can be exclusively reserved on Rec.gov. So if you are thinking where to go camping, some of these locations may be on your list as well and remember to leave no trace.

Rock Creek Campground, nestled next to the pristine Rock Creek Lake, is a nature lover's paradise at the base of the Little Lakes Valley. The campsite itself has over 26 sites with a mix of tent only and non-electric sites, with drinkable water offered at several locations, accompanied by flushable toilets. Sites also offer the standard picnic table, food locker, and fire rings. The rate per night is $31 and the season ranges from May 20th to October 5th depending on snowpack.
The campground is located almost 10 Miles up Rock Creek Lake Road from Highway 395 and offers a windy and steep road. It is about 40 minutes' drive from Mammoth Lakes California and 50 minutes to Bishop California. At 9,705 ft, it is one of the highest drive to campgrounds in all of the Sierra. Based in the Little Lakes Valley there are several lakes to hike back to and enjoy.
In the area there are several Resorts such as Rock Creek Lakes Resort that offer lodging, restaurants, boat rentals, and a general store.
Sherwin Creek Campground
Just outside of Mammoth Lakes, Ca nestled at the base of the Sherwin's at an elevation of 7,600 feet, this expansive campground offers a serene retreat for nature enthusiasts seeking respite from the summer heat. Spanning from May 17th to September 9th, the campground boasts a total of 87 sites, ensuring ample space for visitors to set up their temporary abodes. These sites are thoughtfully organized into three loops, all conveniently located within walking distance of the creek. There's an additional loop dedicated exclusively to tent-only, walk-to sites. Tucked away on either side of the creek, these sites offer a sense of tranquility.
Nature lovers will delight in the campground's surroundings, as it is enveloped by a lush forest of majestic pine trees. The scenic landscape is further enhanced by the presence of enchanting aspen trees that line the picturesque Sherwin Creek, creating a serene and idyllic ambiance. Staying at this campground is $28 per night and has amenities such as, a self-
pay station, trash collection, vault toilets, fresh water, the standard food lockers,
fire pits and picnic tables. There are also summer camps available in Mammoth
Lakes.
Trumbull Lake Campground
Within the Virginia Lakes area, Trumbull Lake Campground sits atop 9,980 ft. and contains 45 sites. This campground offers a variety of single-family sites $28, along with a few double $45 and one triple site $55, providing ample options for your group size. The season runs from June 9th to September 4th. Each site comes equipped with picnic tables, food storage lockers, and campfire rings with grills, ensuring that you can enjoy delicious outdoor meals and cozy evenings by the fire. For those seeking a closer connection to the shimmering waters, a select number of sites offer partial lake views, adding an extra touch of serenity to your camping experience.
Rest assured, your comfort and needs are well taken care of. Vault toilets, drinking water, and trash collection are provided throughout the campground, making your stay hassle-free. In case you need firewood, it's conveniently available for purchase from the friendly campground host. The roads and parking spurs within the campground are made of dirt, blending seamlessly with the natural surroundings.

The Virginia Lakes area is about a 30 minutes' drive or 18 miles to the nearest town, Lee Vining, or 25 miles and 27 minutes to Bridgeport, California.
Bridgeport, California is home to Robinson Creek Campground. This location is incredibly shaded with a number of trees. Situated just 9 miles away from Bridgeport, this campground boasts a prime location next to the scenic Robinson Creek, all at an elevation of 7,000 feet. Within a close proximity to the captivating Twin Lakes area, where a myriad of activities awaits. From boating and fishing to invigorating hikes and horseback riding adventures, there's something for everyone to enjoy. Accessing this natural paradise is a breeze, as a short 9.3-mile journey along Twin Lakes Road leads you to the campground. Open from April 27th to October 15th, Robinson Creek Campground offers 53 spacious campsites, providing ample room for campers to set up their home away from home. With affordable rates ranging from $28 to $45, this campground invites you to immerse yourself in the beauty of the surrounding wilderness and create lasting memories in this enchanting outdoor haven.

Robinson creek is also home to educational programs held at the adjacent Robinson Creek South Campground's amphitheater. June Lakes Loop has several camping facilities in the area, and one of them is June Lake Campground at 7,600 ft of elevation. With 29 well-maintained campgrounds available from April 26th to October 14th, there's ample opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the surrounding nature. The facility ensures convenience with amenities such as drinking water, flush toilets, and bear-proof lockers for secure food storage all for $28 per night. While not directly within the campground, two marinas are located nearby, perfect for those seeking water activities and boating adventures. Additionally, the charming town of June Lake is just a short stroll away, offering a range of amenities including gift shops, groceries, and delightful dining options.
The June Lake Loop has several trailheads to hike into the backcountry along with a plethora of backcountry lakes. The area has countless spots to fish with a number of streams and lakes. For more solitude and privacy there are a number of backcountry lakes and streams available to those who don’t mind hiking a few miles. While we mentioned the season can run from late April to Mid-October, weather is still the limiting factor when it comes to higher elevation campgrounds.
